Arthur Fennel Park
Turning a new leaf
The Marina’s green sanctuary, the Arthur Fennell Park, is turning a new leaf. Thanks to the help of Leon a member of the Wildlife Committee and Lourens and his team, the bushy area of the park has been cleared of all rubble and cleaned up. This will make space for new growth. Carpets of tiny flowers are already shooting up in the areas that are not being mowed. Residents who want to be inspired by the beauty of nature and the park’s variety of creatures, are encouraged to visit the bird feeder now that spring is in the air. They are welcome to bring some fruit along and see a wide variety of indigenous birds.
Shell display
The Marina’s shell collection, an initiative of the Wildlife Committee, was completed late last year.
These beautiful treasures of the ocean are now on display at the Arthur Fennell Hall at the Marina offices. Most of the shells are from the Jeffreys Bay area, but one display cabinet showcases shells from other locations.
Interested residents can contact the Marina offices for an opportunity to view the encompassing display.
They will be able to feast their eyes amongst others on the lovely Echinoidea, commonly known as the pansy, a variety of Cape Urchins and many Variable cones. The shells were kindly donated by: Arlette Dricot, John Petrelis, Crystal Swanepoel, Sara Cornall, Leoni van Staden, Ollie & Christel Coetzee, Stuart & Irene Bradley and Thea & Justin Philp.
